Who Will Inherit Rob & Michele Reiner’s Money After Their Deaths?
In June 2026, Nick Reiner filed a petition to access his $1.5 million trust fund set up by his late parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner, to help pay for his attorneys. Two months later, those overseeing the trust denied the request, citing the California law known as the “slayer statute.”
According to California Legislative Information, the “slayer statute” states that an individual who “feloniously and intentionally kills” is prohibited from inheriting “any property, interest, or benefit under a will of the decedent, or a trust created by or for the benefit of the decedent.”
In response to the verdict, an insider told RadarOnline, “Nick’s family couldn’t be more thrilled their parents’ cash won’t be used to help him beat the charges for this horrific crime. Almost everyone in the Reiner family has completely washed their hands of him after the heinous murders they’re convinced he committed.”
That is quite an interesting statement, seeing as Hollywood insider Rob Shuter previously reported that, despite the horrific situation, Nick’s siblings, Jake and Romy, hadn’t “abandoned” him. They were even allegedly in talks to finance Nick’s legal defense and supported his right to quality representation.
“What’s remarkable is that Jake and Romy still don’t appear to oppose Nick using family money to defend himself,” a source close to the case told Naughty But Nice. “Whatever they may think about the allegations, they believe he deserves a fair fight in court.”

At the time, the trustee wasn’t on the same page as Nick’s siblings. “Jake and Romy seem willing to see trust funds used for legal fees,” a legal source claimed, but the trustee took a “much harder line.”
Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14, 2025. The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s official report stated that they died of “multiple sharp force injuries,” with their deaths officially being ruled a “homicide.”
Nick was soon arrested in connection with Rob and Michele’s deaths, and he’s remained in custody at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown L.A. In July, a grand jury indicted him on two counts of first-degree murder.
