Why We Love Gap and Gap Factory
The Gap (although it’s lovingly known as just “Gap”) was founded in 1969 in San Francisco by couple Don and Doris Fisher, and actually started out a store for Levi’s. By 1974, the store expanded its offerings, and started selling basics—and that’s what it’s grown to become most known for. The Gap Factory opened later on, in 1994, as a way to sell lower-cost SKUs that have that Gap feel, but at lower prices (and yes, lower quality).
Gap is one of those brands I’ve been shopping since childhood and continue to do so well into adulthood. It’s where you go for high-quality, elevated basics that don’t cost a fortune—and you can almost always purchase what you need at a discounted price, thanks to Gap’s many sales events and generous credit card perks (more on that below). It’s a retailer optimal for the entire family: Adults, children (GapKids), and babies (Baby Gap), and it offers something for everyone, although the style is generally on the the preppy side.
Gap shoppers and style editors alike are always tuned in to the brand’s many high-profile collaborations, including the recent Hailey Bieber jeans.

GapCash: How It Works
Throughout the year, you have the chance to earn GapCash: Basically there are several eligibility periods where you can take the money you’ve spent at Gap and get GapCash coupons sent to you in exchange. It’s like cash back, but only during set times. You’ll receive GapCash coupons in your inbox, or, if you’re a member, you’ll have a GapCash “bank” at check-out that you can use. It looks like this:
- $50–$99.99 spent during the time period: $20 off
- $100–$149.99 spent during the time period:: $40 off
- $150–$199.99 spent during the time period:: $60 off
- $200–$249.99 spent during the time period:: $80 off
- $250+ spent during the time period: $100 off
As someone who shops at Gap frequently (at least once a month), I almost always have at least $20 in GapCash waiting for me at check-out.
How We Source Our Codes
We have a hard-working team of two shopping editors on StyleCaster: Day in and day out, we check what’s being shopped the most by our readers, and if there are any existing discount codes. Plus, we have relationships with the brands themselves, and will oftentimes procure exclusive codes or general codes ahead of time. Let’s put it this way: We’re shopping insiders, and we want you to get the very best deal—because why not?
Why Trust StyleCaster
The StyleCaster shopping team is regularly on the hunt for the best deals for you, the readers. We’re a team of four people who find and update coupon codes every day, swapping old codes for new ones. Plus, we give you the shopping 101 you need to make the best choices.
StyleCaster was founded in 2008, covering all things style, beauty, and celeb fashion—and we continue to do that to this day, plus the added value of shopping recommendations, all curated by our commerce editors.
