Lenoir, N.C. – Bernhardt is celebrating the enduring connection between art and design at this spring’s High Point Market (April 23–29) with its Artist in Residence program, spotlighting Nashville-based sculptor and interior designer Kelley Estes.
Seven of Estes’ bronze and marble pieces will be exhibited in the second-floor gallery of Bernhardt’s iconic showroom at 101 N. Hamilton St. in High Point’s Design District. The centerpiece of the exhibit is “Large Abstract Figure,” a substantial bronze work, joined by pieces including “Oculus,” “Reclining Draped Female Figure,” and “Abstract Form I and II.” Estes’ work draws inspiration from nature and the human form, capturing shape, texture, and singular moments in time.
“Art has always been an important influence for Bernhardt’s own designs,” said Alex Bernhardt Jr., president and CEO. “When we created the interiors for our showroom, we included a gallery specifically to exhibit works and artists that would inspire and captivate our market guests. Kelley Estes’ work has a modern organic style that complements not only our showroom but Bernhardt’s collections of home furnishings. We’re excited to see the reaction to her beautiful sculptures.”
Of her work, Estes says, “Stillness is as important as activity. For me, a connection to nature is essential, providing inspiration for art, as well as balance in life. I strive to respect the honesty of materials I am working with and adhere to a purity of intent in their creation.”
Estes studied art history at Vanderbilt University and later pursued a Master of Fine Arts at the Corcoran School of Art and Museum in Washington, D.C. She has a project of 22 works at Château de Chantilly, created for American Friends of Chantilly, outside Paris.
