To celebrate 50 years of Fine Woodworking magazine, our team has unearthed the original charter letter written by Paul Roman (1931–2024) in 1975. Roman, founder of The Taunton Press, describes his vision for this new magazine: a specialized publication dedicated to fine woodworking techniques, tools, and opinions. He is clear that this will not be a publication dedicated to quick DIY projects or home improvement, but rather a place for woodworkers to connect and learn.
