This Finance Bro Staple Is Getting the Fashion Girl Treatment

We’re not tucking into tight bitchy little jackets… at least most of the time. Instead, we’re throwing on an oversized quarter-zip sweatshirt and heading out the door.

Let’s be clear about something, though: I’m not telling you to dig in your local finance bro’s closet for outfit inspiration. Though the structure of the pieces are the same, the fashion girlies have taken the quarter-zip in as their own. Keep reading to discover everything there is to know about the classic-turned-trendy look, and shop it yourself.

The Not-So-Humble Quarter-Zip Trend

Ralph Lauren-core didn’t die on December 26, people. Preppy, “morning grocery run at the family lake house” styles are alive and well.

Look to the runways for proof. At Chanel’s Pre-Fall 2026 show, Bhavitha Mandava kicked off the festivities in an unzipped quarter-zip layered over a white T-shirt and pearl necklace. She was also wearing one when she was scouted, FYI.

Sandy Liang has them on offer. (I’m obsessed with the name of her fleece pullover: “Lilbean.”) Miu Miu, Dior, and Saint Laurent, too. When Frame advertised the quarter-zip polo from their collection with Ritz Paris, they described it as having “a touch of preppy ‘80s off-duty style.” That’s a good description, but there’s some ’90s flair going on as well.

Alongside the designers, we can thank our about-to-be-heightened obsession with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy‘s style for inspiring the movement. You know the look, right? Buttery hair casually thrown back, those sunglasses, a slightly cropped pant. Modern fans include Hailey Bieber, Laura Harrier, and Jennifer Lawrence, to name but the smallest selection.

How to Wear Them

Apologies if you were looking to hear something interesting here, but we’re not styling our quarter-zips in particularly new and ingenious ways (yet). The main point when wearing one is to not look like you’re headed to work for the next 72 hours, so make sure something about your outfit retains a little chic undone-ness. This is where we see the “Olsen tuck” come into play.

One of the best parts of this is that you get to wear your favorite pieces with it—you can really make anything work, from a good jean to a fun midi skirt (it’s cold out, or I would say go mini). Your ballet flats from last year can have their moment again, too.
