Wes Craven’s forgotten Freddy Krueger TV show is now streaming for free

Both seasons of Freddy’s Nightmares are now available on Tubi

Just in time for Halloween, the 1988 horror anthology TV show Freddy’s Nightmares is back on TubiTV, where all 44 episodes are available to watch for free. Each episode of this Wes Craven-directed A Nightmare on Elm Street spin-off series is introduced by Freddy himself (played, of course, by Robert Englund) and features two spine-chilling stories. The show takes place on the infamous Elm Street, and often features characters who attend the local high school. For the most part, the series sticks to an anthology format perfect for jumping into for a quick scare, although some episodes do feature short arcs or references to the events of a previous episode.

Given the show’s setting, it may come as a surprise that Freddy himself doesn’t usually appear as an antagonist in Freddy’s Nightmares. Instead, the residents of Elm Street are usually terrorized by other supernatural beings or phenomena. As for Freddy’s role, he mainly provides commentary on the events of the episodes, Crypt Keeper-style, but he does serve as the main antagonist in eight episodes. The pilot episode is a standout entry, which opens on the original, non-supernatural Freddy standing trial in 1984 for the murders he committed.

Freddy’s Nightmares holds a 94% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and while the show isn’t as gory or intense as the film it’s based on, it’s still worth a watch (at least for Freddy fans), as it provides a rare opportunity to see more of Englund in his most iconic role, and with Craven once again helming the ship.
